VM Seismic Handler

Hi, Is there any documentation on installation of VM Seismic handler. I want to install it on Windows XP. Thank you. Regards, Svetlana

    Hi Svetlana,

you have to install at least the  VMware Player software (free of charge, but you are requested to register online). Just follow the instructions supplied with it, there are self-explanatory (you need administrator rights).

Once installed, you can run the SH virtual machine. This can be done without admin rights.

    1. download the ZIP version,
    2. unzip the archive to a real folder (you cannot run it from inside the archive),
    3. double click on seishand icon for start.

Hi Markus, Thank you for your prompt reply. I have VMware Player installed and other VM machine running. The trouble I get into is that after decompressing (size after decompression is 2.06 GB (2,222,858,240 bytes) and untarring of seishand-opensuse-11-20080718.tar file I do get ide_disk_100gb with 0 length and after trying to play SH virtual machine it prompts: File not found: ide_disk_100gb.vmdk It is not matter of space on the disk, there is enough. Hi Svetlana,

it seems that your archive is corrupted in some way (on Windows sometimes it's tricky to decompress tar.bz2 files). I recommend downloading virtual Debian version of SH (ZIP version) - since it's the only one that is being maintained actively.

          Hi Markus,

I downloaded the Debian VM and it works fine. The problem with SUSE VM was decompression with bzip2 under windows, after un-bziping it under Unix system and copying back to windows it also started.

          Thank you.

          Regards, Svetlana
